There's no great philosophy here - our life, and that of our cats and dogs, is an open book. It's actually quite simple.

And our story is similar to so many others.

The Maine Coon Cattery Daeniken Castle is, physically, a 230 years old country cottage standing alone in the meadows of a spacious area in northern Slovenia, somewhat near to Italy and Austria, where one February night in 2005 a long-awaited young king by the name of Rump-Coons' Daeniken was kindly brought to us by Sandra and Marko after a long trip from Germany.

It was half past two in the morning and all was well... The king was home at last.

As it were, there are some non-Maine-coon subjects in the Castle as well - there is Nejc, an electronic engineer retired from the Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana, and Anka (officially Andreja), a professional convention organizer working from home, and the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Gizmo (Chief of Security), the little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Lady (Public Relations), and the remarkably intelligent domestic cat, Primadonna Mecko.

AnjaThe Vice-President of our club (Cats4Us, Frankfurt, Germany) Anja Rump of Rump-Coons who had sold two breeding kitties to Slovenia, one to Dannisis Maine Coon cattery and one to us, even flew in from Germany in May 2005 to see how her cats were doing in Slovenia and if everything was alright.

An admirable move – one to convince you that some breeders are truly dedicated.
We had a wonderful time together -  a few splendid days of companionship, champagne and passionate cat talk.
This welcome guest became our much appreciated teacher...

Cheers and thanks to you, Anja!

Backyard: our first outdoor run, 30 m2, with a tunnel passage to indoors. A larger netted “cat garden” is under construction.

Question:  why whould a cat lover go into breeding? Why bring little Maine Coons into this world and face the responsibility, work, worry and all sorts of uncertainty?

BREEDING IS EXPENSIVE. To run a decent, serious cattery you need a great deal of money. And then of course there is another big investment - a lot of your time and a lot
of your heart. Apart from joy, there will invariably be heart-breaking spells...

AND YET IT SEEMS WORTHWHILE. Financially? Hard to say. This aspect of breeding is definitely questionable - or even risky.

But then  there are OTHER GRATIFICATIONS which are, in this material world, a little more difficult to pinpoint and evaluate, but they are true gratifications.

The cat is one of the most gracious beings. Admired to the point of being reverred in some ancient cultures, kept for companionship or for practical purposes in many others, the cat was not always treated well or understood, yet it never lost its dignity.
Whatever we do, this graceful creature remains its own delightful self, tough and ephemeral at the same time, vain, charming and unpardonably curious.

In other words, rather irresistable.

Can anyone be blamed for falling in love, and quite irretrievably so?

And especially, as in this case, falling in love with His Royal Majesty, the Maine Coon Himself?

If you are on this site you are here either by mistake, or you are curious yourself... or, goodness, gracious, great balls of fire, you have been enchanted and are developing a long-lasting admiration and affection for this incredible cat, the Maine Coon!

If the latter is the case, feel heartily welcome to the aficionado club – and may Lady Luck and your own good senses never leave you! With a Maine Coon companion your life may well acquire a fine new quality, a rather precious something to be appreciated and enjoyed to the full.
