MAINE COON, THE KING OF CATS –
an intelligent, playful giant and a great companion to people and pets

It is for the wonderful companionship more than anything else that we appreciate the Maine Coon breed so much.

This guy, the Maine Coon, has everything one can  wish for in a cat – a dignified independence combined with a genuine devotion to his humans, an easy-going and resourceful nature that is free of resentment and spite, a jolly playfulness which will not, however, cause him to jump to the ceiling and hang from the chandelier, a responsiveness that is simply heart-melting...

But then he's also good-looking and cuddly, isn't he?

Tabasco in Black Magic 1

Max and Miha brought our lovely 11-months old solid siblings to one of our Breed Presentations in Mr. PET, Ljubljana – Max is holding
his huge red communicative Tabasco, and Miha is gently protective of Tabasco’s sister Black Magic.

Applying a bit of licentia poetica we call the Maine Coon »an anti-stress program«.

An awful lot of people live a hectic and strenuous life. An awful lot of both children and adults are lonesome, depressed, aggressive, unstable – and so much more. It goes without saying that illness or old age can put pressure on anyone. So it would seem that at one time or another anybody can be found wandering on the dark side of the moon, nursing a weakened self-esteem, feeling exhausted, lethargic, hostile or just plain fed up...

Fighting stress simply isn't easy. We might, however, nevertheless agree with Max Ehrmann's conclusion of his famous poem DESIDERATA:

«With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.«

Where practised, most of the AAA (Animal Assisted Activities) and AAT (Animal Assisted
Therapy) are carried out with the help of trained dogs, but then there is also a surprising number of other animals – cats, rabbits, hampsters, birds, squirrels, mice, rats, dolphins, horses, lamas...
Yes, even mice and rats, commonly detested but also rather cute living beings of almost negligeable size, can provide a gratifying companionship.

An illustrious example, even if given mystical proportions, is Mr. Jingles, the little prison mouse in Stephen King's novel (and Frank Darabont's film) The Green Mile.

Well, it would seem that we people, no matter how tough we want to appear, need someone to relate to, talk to, take care of, feel tender about, receive some affection in return...

A sense of purpose and companionship, even if only on a small scale, can be incredibly soothing.

In other words, we find comfort and joy in bonding with our pets.

Nejc in Rambo jesen 07

Rambo (brown classic tabby / white, 11 months here) loves being carried around in a friendly hug... both inside and outside the house. He is particularly fascinated by long walks (with plentiful conversation) around the gardens. Apart from being devoted to his humans he is an attentive nature lover with a lot of refinement - one more born observer...

So where do Maine Coons fit in?

Right there...!

Having a delightful sense of fun, our neutered sweetheart Bluebayou Oskar (blue solid, 14 months here) loves tricking Nejc, playing hide-and-seek on his shoulders... Now you see me - now you don’t!!!
You wouldn’t believe how a highly intelligent, sophisticated cat can share and enjoy a totally simple little game...

They are simply a joy to have around!
